Redler chains
Our Redler chains in single or double strand have been operating for many years in a wide variety of industries such as energy generation (thermal power plants or biomass power plants), waste incineration, chipboard production, and more. Our company founder has been involved in conveyor technology since 1988.
We use 18MnCrB5 as the main material for our chains, as it has a higher boron content than 20MnCr5, which provides the forged link with greater toughness. As a result, our high-performance chains run reliably for many years. Special designs in stainless steel are also available for use in particularly demanding environments. Typical wood-industry applications and internal references are summarised on the wood industry conveyor chains hub.

Trough design | Wear strips
The trough decides how long a Redler chain lasts: floors and side walls are lined with wear strips or manganese rails in X120Mn12 (1.3401), because that is where most of the wear occurs. We size scraper height, clearance to the trough floor and chain pull to the conveyed material and conveying length: wood chips need more volume, ash, clinker and slag need more wear protection on scrapers and wear strips. Trough, chain, scrapers and sprockets are supplied as one matched system. More: Wear strips & manganese rails in X120Mn12

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between a Redler chain and a fork link chain?
The fork link chain is the base chain — two fork links connected by pins and bushes. A Redler chain is a fork link chain with bolt-on or welded scrapers that carry the bulk material along the trough. In short: every Redler chain is based on a fork link chain, but not every fork link chain is a Redler chain.
Why 18MnCrB5 instead of 20MnCr5?
The raised boron content of 18MnCrB5 improves hardenability and toughness of the fork links. In practice that means markedly longer service life under impact load — especially where coarse or heavy bulk materials (clinker, slag, wood chunks) strike the scrapers. We have used 18MnCrB5 as the standard material for years.
Which scraper types are available?
Flat scrapers (universal), U-scrapers (higher conveying capacity, ideal for light bulk materials such as shavings) and Z-scrapers (for sticky or damp media). Fixing is either bolted (easy maintenance) or welded (maximum strength). Material: quenched and tempered 42CrMo4, hard-chromed for abrasive media, or stainless steel 1.4301 for corrosive applications.
Can Redler chains convey on an incline or vertically?
Yes. Redler chains run horizontally, on inclines up to about 45 degrees (steeper with adapted scraper geometry) and vertically in special cases. Inclined conveying needs closer-spaced and taller scrapers to prevent material sliding back; we design that application-specifically.
How is wear in the trough managed?
Wear occurs mainly on the scrapers and on the trough floor liners. Scrapers are bolted parts and can be replaced selectively. We protect the trough floor with manganese rails in X120Mn12 (stock length 3050 mm), which work-harden in service to a surface hardness of up to 600 HB. Both come from our own production.
Are scraper chains the same as Redler chains?
Yes. Scraper chain, trough conveyor chain and Redler chain describe the same design in practice: a fork link chain with scrapers that push the bulk material through a closed trough. Scraper chain describes what the scrapers do; Redler chain has become the established name for chains in trough chain conveyors.
Which pitches are available?
Standard pitches are 101.6 mm, 142 mm, 200 mm, 250 mm and 260 mm. Special pitches are made to drawing or sample; matching sprockets, scrapers and manganese rails come with them.
