FyreWrap® Elite® 1.5 | Fire Protection for Ventilation and Grease Ducts | Alkegen®
Non-combustible fire wrap for ventilation and grease ducts: 1 to 2 hours, two layers on grease ducts.
FyreWrap® Elite® 1.5 by Alkegen® (formerly Unifrax®) protects ventilation and grease ducts from fire. The blanket is made of biosoluble Insulfrax® fibre, is wrapped around the duct and replaces a fire shaft.

PRODUCT TYPE
FyreWrap® Elite® 1.5 by Alkegen® (formerly Unifrax®) is a non-combustible, flexible fire wrap for ducts. It is wrapped around the duct and replaces a masonry or board-clad fire shaft. The core is biosoluble Insulfrax® fibre (alkaline earth silicate, AES) in a foil and glass-fibre scrim cover. The scrim keeps the blanket clean while it is cut and fitted.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Non-combustible, needled without binder
- Biosoluble fibre, exonerated from carcinogen classification under Note Q of EU Regulation EC/1272/2008 (CLP)
- Follows bends, branches and other awkward duct shapes
- Cuts with a knife, thin and light
- According to the data sheet, no clearance to combustible materials is required (tested to ASTM E2336)
- Takes less room than a shaft
APPLICATIONS
- Ventilation and air-conditioning ducts with a fire rating requirement
- Kitchen exhaust and grease ducts in commercial kitchens, two layers
- Smoke extract ducts
- Exhaust ducts that carry harmful chemicals or fumes
TESTING
The air duct data sheet gives fire resistance to ISO 6944 (duct type A) with two hours each of stability, integrity and insulation, plus tests to ASTM E119 and E814. The two-layer grease duct version passes ASTM E2336 and holds ICC report ESR-2224. Many of these tests are US standards. The Alkegen website also lists EN, BS and AS tests. The fire rating applies only to the tested system build-up. Which test counts for your project depends on the country and the building. State duct dimensions, required fire rating and country in your enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is one layer enough?
On ventilation ducts yes, it gives one to two hours depending on the tested build-up. Grease ducts need two layers.
Why the foil and scrim cover?
It holds the fibre together and keeps fitting clean. On grease ducts the foil stops the fibre core from soaking up grease or flammable liquid.
How does Elite 1.5 differ from the other FyreWrap® variants?
Elite 1.5 is made for ventilation and grease ducts. Marine, Cable and DPS cover ships, cable trays and dryer exhausts. All five variants are on the overview page.
