The VIREboard boards are available in thicknesses from 10 mm to 105 mm and in densities from 375 to 700 kg/m³. This ensures we provide the right solution for every application.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What densities are available for VIREboard vermiculite boards?
The boards are available in densities ranging from 375 to 700 kg/m³ (datasheets RD375, RD475, RD600 and RD700). According to the datasheet, densities of up to 1,200 kg/m³ are also available.
How strong are the boards?
Strength increases with density. Cold compressive strength: 1.3 N/mm² (RD375), 2.5 N/mm² (RD475), 4.2 N/mm² (RD600) and 4.5 N/mm² (RD700). Bending tensile strength: 0.3, 0.8, 1.6 and 2.0 N/mm².
How well do the boards insulate?
Thermal conductivity according to ASTM C-182 increases with density and temperature. Values in W/mK at 200, 400, 600 and 800 °C: RD375 0.12, 0.15, 0.16 and 0.19. RD475 0.14, 0.17, 0.19 and 0.20. RD600 0.16, 0.18, 0.20 and 0.22. RD700 0.19, 0.20, 0.21 and 0.22.
What are the properties of vermiculite?
Vermiculite is light, non-toxic, fibre-free, odourless, acid-resistant and fireproof. Its melting temperature is above 1300 °C. Linear reheat shrinkage is approximately 1 % after 12 hours at 1000 °C.
Where are the boards used?
As insulating parts, heat shields and back insulation in heating appliances, ventilation and air conditioning, industrial boilers, in the aluminium and steel industries, in foundries, power stations and waste incineration plants, in shipbuilding and in structural fire protection.
Can shaped parts also be made from vermiculite?
Yes. Shaped parts are made by pressing with a tool or on our 5-axis CNC system, exactly to your drawings and requirements.
