Tap hole plugs made of fiber
Tap hole plugs and stoppers made of fiber for non-ferrous metal, iron and steel casting. Fiber grade based on casting temperature.
Our refractory tap hole plugs and stoppers are designed for safe and precise control of molten metal flow in aluminium foundries and casting operations. With fiber grades from 1,260 °C to 1,600 °C and higher, these plugs ensure operational safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Made from asbestos-free materials, they provide excellent dimensional accuracy and are available in standard sizes as well as customized dimensions for your specific needs. Their non-stick aluminium properties and low thermal conductivity improve process safety, reduce downtime, and help achieve consistent casting quality.

Key Advantages
Heat resistance of 1,260 °C to 1,600 °C and higher, depending on the fiber
Custom manufacturing available for any size or shape
Non-stick aluminium properties ensure clean casting processes
Energy-efficient due to low thermal conductivity
Lightweight yet strong for easy handling and long service life
Designed for smooth, controlled molten metal flow
Fiber grades
Which fiber is right depends on the metal and the casting temperature. We make the plugs in three grades: standard with a classification temperature of 1,260 °C, zirconia type at around 1,430 °C and polycrystalline from 1,600 °C. We also offer AES fibers such as Superwool Prime, Insulfrax HT and Isofrax at 1,300 to 1,400 °C. A mix of standard and zirconia fiber is also possible.
Tell us the metal, casting temperature and drawing. We will tell you which fiber is right.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the temperature resistance of the plugs?
That depends on the fiber: 1,260 °C classification temperature for standard fiber, about 1,430 °C for zirconia fiber, 1,600 °C and higher for polycrystalline fiber. We select the fiber based on the metal and casting temperature, making them ideal for use in melting furnaces, cupola furnaces, and for aluminium casting.
Can I order custom sizes or shapes?
Yes, we manufacture custom plugs based on your drawings and specifications, ensuring a precise fit for your application.
What are the typical applications?
Our plugs are used in foundries, aluminium plants, and smelting operations—wherever a safe and controlled molten metal flow is required.
How do the plugs improve process safety?
Thanks to their high dimensional accuracy and temperature stability, the plugs enable clean processes, reduced downtime, and greater system safety.
Do the plugs help with energy efficiency?
Yes. Their low thermal conductivity contributes to energy savings and cost reductions in your operation.
