MAFTEC

™ MLS Blanket
Polycrystalline mullite ceramic fibre.
The most advanced cladding and module solution for CGL, CAL and rolling-mill furnaces up to 1,600 °C.

Made from pure mullite (Al₂O₃ : SiO₂ = 72 : 28, Al₂O₃ + SiO₂ ≥ 99.9 % by ICP-AES). Shrinkage < 1 % at 1,400 °C × 24 h, practically no shot, practically no WHO fibres — the result: less damage to steel sheets, more stable production, longer campaign life.

01 · What MAFTEC is

Polycrystalline.
Not RCF.

Classic refractory ceramic fibres (RCF) shrink significantly in continuous operation — because they are amorphous and re-crystallise under heat.

MAFTEC is already crystalline. What is not amorphous cannot re-crystallise. The result: dimensionally stable — for years.

01
Pure mullite
3 Al₂O₃ · 2 SiO₂ — polycrystalline, not amorphous like classic RCF. Stable mullite structure up to 1,600 °C, no phase change below 1,595 °C (Al₂O₃–SiO₂ eutectic).
02
No boron binder
Unlike alumina fabrics, no boron evaporates from MAFTEC. No embrittlement, no deposits on cooling sections.
03
Nonwoven
Fleece structure instead of weave — retains shape and spring-back even without sizing agents.
Phase diagram Al₂O₃ – SiO₂

MAFTEC sits in the green field — pure mullite.

At 70–74 % Al₂O₃ the fibre reaches the composition of pure mullite. Other alumina and ceramic fibres sit in mixed phases — under heat, mullite + cristobalite or corundum + mullite appear simultaneously. This is the fundamental reason for RCF shrinkage.

03 · Applications

Where MAFTEC runs at our customers.

1.2k STRIP · 450–1.200 °C · 150 m/min
01
up to 1,200 °C
Hot-dip galvanizing lines

CGL · Continuous Galvanizing Line

Low emissivity reduces heat radiation on the steel strips. MAFTEC cladding replaces old fibre-mat systems — faster temperature changes possible.

1.15k MODULE · 25 × 300 × 300 mm · 160 kg/m³
02
up to 1,150 °C
Annealing lines

CAL · Continuous Annealing Line

Direct-fired zones: MAFTEC modules as burner-proximity refractory. Practically no WHO fibres — clearable under REACH and TRGS.

1.6k HUB- / STOSSOFEN · BLANKET + MODULE
03
up to 1,600 °C
Steel · aluminium · non-ferrous

Rolling & annealing furnaces

Walking-beam and pusher furnaces. Full lining as MAFTEC blanket layer or as module. Campaign-life extension vs chamotte typically 3–5×.

04 · Construction forms

One fibre. Four assemblies.

MAFTEC delivers the same fibre quality in four constructions — we help choose the right one by furnace type, temperature and installation.

05 · Workplace safety & compliance

Not respirable.
That is measurable.

MAFTEC produces practically no WHO fibres (fibre diameter < 3 µm, length > 5 µm, ratio ≥ 3:1). The fibre is therefore not classified as CMR — unlike classic RCF/AES fibre under TRGS 619.

REACH-compliant
No SVHC substances. Documented safety data sheet DE/EN/FR is included with every delivery.
TRGS 619 / 521
MAFTEC is not a "biopersistent fibre" under TRGS. No protective-group requirement, no CMR classification needed.
